I walked 21 km today. I’m getting stronger. Feet are a little sore, but achilles and everything else is good. 21 is much easier than 24, or 27. I think too much is made about evolution of the human mind. I think much of human evolution is really about walking, the ability to efficiently move along. I met a life coach on the Camino who told me every time you take a step, your foot striking the ground lights up the opposite hemisphere of your brain. It’s great how efficient it is to get around in an automobile. I am spending 45 days to walk 500 miles. I put a 1,000 miles a month on my car, spending around an hour a day driving. But we have lost something human when we don’t walk regularly. It’s not surprising that I wasn’t walking correctly when I have never had to.
On a personal note, I stopped for lunch in a tiny town in a tiny restaurant/bar. As I was getting ready to leave, the theme song to Dr. Zhivago started to play on their sound system. That was I Ho’s favorite movie. Lots of tears.
